Chauncey Jerome 8-day steeple with J.S. Turner 8-day alarm,ca. 1852. A very rare steeple-alarm with an 8-day repeating alarm, patented by J.S. Turner in 1852. The alarm is integral
to the movement and replaces the strike train; it sets on the first 12 hr pass and strikes on the second (every 24 hr) and shuts itself
off after about 45 seconds. There are two examples on the Antique Clocks Identification and Price Guide and one additional example
on LiveAuctioneers, all of which are by Chauncey Jerome. This clock makes a total of four examples. The 20-inch case is
mahogany with rosewood veneer on the front, a likely original dial glass and a likely original mirror. The dial holds the original
paint with light touch-up, the hands are likely replacements. The 8-day time-and-alarm movement is unsigned and quite distinctive. I cannot keep it running and the alarm was not tested. There is a good label behind the 4.5-inch iron bell. This clock
was discussed by Snowden Taylor in Research Activities And News in the Sep/Oct 2012 issue of the NAWCC Bulletin. $250–$500.
