Atkins Clock Co. 8-day steeple, ca. 1860. Solomon
Spring worked with Irenus Atkins and likely designed this case (along with the more famous “London”). The 20-inch mahogany case
has a very light finish and two old glasses, the tablet showing an American eagle on the shield and with only light losses. The dial has been extensively touched up, the hands are proper replacements. I believe the unsigned movement is an 8-day, although
the label states Thirty Hour. It is a time-and-strike and will run for a short while and strike. The label has considerable
losses but is legible. ACC steeples are not common, with just three on LiveAuctioneers and three on the Antique Clocks Identification
and Price Guide. This exact clock is shown in The Clocks of Irenus Atkins (Gregory & King) on page 86, and the movement
(#284) on page 84. $150–$300.
