Brewster & Ingrahams round gothic
with cast iron cups, 1846-1852. The brass springs in this movement are held in cast iron cups, but it lacks the cast iron backplate. This uncommon model likely came late in evolution of these clocks to reduce cost and weight; a similar example is shown in Ly, Ingraham
Clocks & Watches, on pages 46-47 and is noted as “a rare movement variation”. The 19-inch mahogany case has a beautiful
finish with flame mahogany on the front. The dial glass is a modern replacement, the cut and frosted tablet is likely original
and commonly found in these clocks. The dial is wood, rounded on the face and repainted; there is an interesting, penciled signature
on the back from 1861. The signed 8-day, time-and-strike movement is running and striking on a wire gong; the dark green label
is too dark to read. $450–$700.
