John Birge double-steeple
fusee, ca. 1848. A second example of this double steeple with a remote fusee movement. The 25-inch case has a clean, old
finish with a couple of veneer repairs; the three glasses are period/original with the original tablets. The cone finials look
original. The original dial has been repainted and is darkened and chipping again; the hands are replacements. The 8-day,
time-and-strike double-fusee movement will run for a while, the strike is slow but working. The movement is again signed Birge
& Fuller. There is a good label inside. $600–$1000.
