English lever-spring fusee striking skeleton clock, ca. 1880. I have little experience with skeletons; my consignor tells me this clock is unusual for the lever-spring, double-fusee movement (I
can find no other examples on LiveAuctioneers) and the double-strike, marking the half-hours on the overhead bell and counting the
hours on a large cathedral gong behind the clock. Also note the seconds bit dial at the top center. It is running and
striking as expected; I assume this clock runs 8 days. With the glass dome it is 22.5 inches tall and 20 inches wide. The dial is silvered with some wear. I can find no signature or maker’s mark on the movement and only the remnants of a label
on the underside, but there is a penciled service note there dated 1887. This is a unique clock, for sure. If you have
insight as to the maker or similar examples, please let me know. $1500–$3000.
