257. $200
French and English grandmother clock, ca. 1890. A 73.5-inch tall
painted and Japanned pine case with a round pendule de Paris 8-day, time-and-strike movement. The embossed dial states that
the case and dial were made in England and the movement was made in France; the movement is unsigned. It is running and striking
on the hours and half-hours on a large brass bell. The boss on the dial states Tempus fugit; the dial could stand to be cleaned
and polished. The hands look original. The case could also stand to be cleaned, but it is complete and there are no significant
nicks or scratches. The finials on top are gilded spelter. Quite unusual. $200–$500.
