229. $600
E. Howard & Co. “No. 4 Regulator” banjo, ca. 1874. A 32-inch cherry
case with rosewood graining and an old and slightly crusty finish. The three glasses appear to be original and have been rebacked;
the signed, painted dial is original and badly touched up, soiled, and chipping. The hands are original. The 8-day, time-only
movement is signed and running; the weight is not marked, the pendulum bob is damascened and the red weight shield with a pendulum
tie-down is original. There is a label on the bottom. A very original example. $600–$900.
