228. $600
Howard & Davis “No. 4 Regulator” banjo, ca. 1858. A second example, again
a cherry case with good retention of the rosewood graining on the bezels and sides, although it is dark. The dial glass is a
replacement, the throat and box glasses are period/original, but have been rebacked and possibly repainted. The signed paper
dial is original and shows typical wear but the dial itself is not original to the clock; the hands are period/original. The
8-day time-only movement is signed Howard & Davis and is running with a proper No. 4 weight, pulley, and pendulum. The weight
shield is likely a replacement and the pendulum tie-down is missing. No label. A nice example. $600–$800.
