221.         $50

American Clock Co. round drop, 1851-1859.  The American Clock Co. was formed as a sales agency for Connecticut clockmakers, to protect prices from low-cost sellers.  This round drop has a label inside with the address 3 Cortlandt St in New York City (this label may be a reproduction).  This clock was likely made for export to England, as it has the typical three wooden plugs on the sides of the bezel that allow you to remove the bezel and dial to access the movement.  The 23-inch case is walnut with a nice finish, the dial is flaking and soiled, the hands are period, the glass is modern.  The lower glass is old but may have been repainted.  The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is unsigned, running and striking on a brass bell; there is a door on the bottom to access the pendulum.  $50–$150.
