E.N. Welch Mfg. Co. “Alexis No. 2”, ca. 1872. The smaller of the two
Alexis models at 22 inches long with a 10-inch dial. The grain painting is outstanding on this example; both glasses appear
to be modern replacements. The original painted dial shows light soiling and just a few chips; the hands are proper Welch hands. The 8-day, time-only movement is signed and will run for a minute or two with coaxing. It will do better with a bit of attention
and patience. There is a good label behind plastic inside the bottom. Note the carvings between the two rounds. AAC sold a similar example last winter for $200. $150–$250.
