209.         $150

E.N. Welch Mfg. Co. “Alexis No. 1” ca. 1872.  This model came in two sizes, 26 inches long with a 12-inch dial, as found here, and a 22-inch version (#210).  The grain painting on the bezels is strong and both glasses are original, with the original putty.  The painted dial is in good condition with just a bit of well-done touch up in places.  The hands are period but not shown in the catalog illustrations (Ly, Welch Clocks, Second Edition, page 216).  The signed 8-day, time-only movement will run briefly but should be fine with some attention and patience.  There is a good label behind plastic inside at the bottom, with the Alexis name paste-over that was required when the original name, Ionic, was discovered to be already used by Ingraham.  An uncommon model with no recent sales.  $150–$300.
