206.         $1200

E.N. Welch Mfg. Co. “Regulator No. 12” ca. 1889.  This is the upscale and larger version of the previous clock, at 65 inches long and 22 inches wide, with a 12-inch dial (note that Ly, in Welch Clocks, describes this clock as being 60 inches long and 18 inches wide with a 10-inch dial, matching the dimensions of the Regulator No. 11.  However, examples I have found online report the dimensions I show here.)  The case is “Antique Oak” and may have been refinished.  The door glass is original, held in place with the original putty.  The painted metal dial has been overcoated and is now alligatored and yellowed, and probably should be refinished.  The hands are as shown in the catalog illustration (Ly,Welch Clocks, page 257).  The pendulum is suspended from the back of the case and the spring has broken, so I could not test the clock.  The suspension spring will require professional repair.  The 30-day, time-only movement is signed and is double-wind; the pendulum is original, and there is a Welch beat scale at the bottom.  There is no label.  This is an uncommon clock, more so than the No. 11, with only five sales on LiveAuctioneers and in the Antique Clocks Identification and Price Guide; the most recent sale, of a mahogany version, sold for $2200 in 2016 at Forsythe’s Auction.  $1200–$1600.
