194. $450
Waterbury Clock Co. early regulator, ca. 1860. This model
cannot be found in either of Ly’s volumes on Waterbury clocks. There is no label and the movement is unsigned, but it is identical
to the movement used in the Waterbury Regulator No. 4 (Rosedale) – see page 714 of Ly’s Waterbury Clocks & Watches, Vol. 2. The very dark case is about 52 inches long, with an old, unpolished finish; I cannot be sure the finials are original or correct. The door glass is period/original. The metal dial has been painted, and possibly repainted; the hands are correct. The
dial is signed at the bottom. The A-frame double-wind movement is, as noted, unsigned; it is running, 8-days on two brass weights. Note the three wooden posts on which the dial is mounted. The pendulum stick and bob look original. The crest mounts on
two wooden pegs and is certainly Waterbury style. My consignor has suggested that this is an early Waterbury regulator that
did not make it into later catalogs, a reasonable suggestion. We report, you decide. $450–$800.
