177.           $500

Boston Clock Co. “No. 70 Regulator”, 1884-1895.  It looks like a Howard clock, but the movement is marked ‘____ Clock Co., Boston’ (The first word of the name is poorly die-stamped). BCC eventually became the Chelsea Clock Co.  The 33-inch oak case has an old finish; the dial glass is period/original, the lower glass is modern and was likely painted to match the Howard design, but is also found on one other example, and so is likely correct. The painted metal dial is not signed and is clean but chipping in places.  The hands are typical and period.  The signed 8-day, time-only movement is running but needs to be cleaned.  There is an old iron weight and an old pendulum and bob, but no label; the weight shield appears to be original but the pendulum tie-down is missing.  I cannot find an exact match to this clock in the Antique Clocks Identification and Price Guide or on LiveAuctioneers.  $500–$800.
