E. Howard & Co. “No. 70 Regulator”, ca. 1900. A 31-inch
cherry–or possibly mahogany–case with an old finish. Both glasses are original, the lower glass rebacked. The 12-inch dial holds
very old paint with slight chipping and cracking. The signature may have been strengthened, the hands are correct. The
Howard No. 70 8-day, time-only movement is running without problem, driven by a No. 70 iron weight and regulated by a Howard pendulum. There is wooden weight shield and a Howard tie-down. This is a beautiful example, not often found in cherry. The average
price of seven No. 70’s sold by AAC is $754, but I have not sold one in cherry. $750–$1000.
