Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Regulator No. 17”, ca. 1885. This
large clock with an easy-to-read 14-inch dial was widely used in railroad stations and public buildings; the former owner tells me
this one came out of a railroad station in Toronto Canada. The 68-inch solid oak case has an old finish in fine shape; all the
small round finials are present and correct, as is the small decorative piece that is often missing at the bottom of the front of
the case. Remarkably, both glasses appear to be original; the dial was repainted by The Dial House, the hands are original. The Movement No. 62 is correct for this model (See Ly, Seth Thomas Clocks & Movements, Vol. 1, page 209); it runs 8 days, time-only,
driven by a proper ST brass weight with knurled end caps and regulated by a heavy pendulum. There is a raised beat scale at
the bottom; there is no label and no date on the back. Schmitt Horan sold an oak example in 2022 for $1900; Tom Harris sold one
in 2019 for $1800. $1200–$1800.
