96. $100
Sperry & Shaw(?) 8-day steeple with four
finials, 1844-1851. The label is obscured by the gong and so I can’t be sure Shaw is the second party, but Sperry & Shaw
made other four-finial steeples. This one is unusual because it is an 8-day time-and-strike with an unsigned movement. The 21-inch mahogany case has an old, dark finish; the finials are in the form of octagon cones. I can’t be sure all are original. The dial glass is period/original; the frosted tablet is modern and is mounted backwards (frosted side out). The zinc dial has
been repainted and is not original to this case; the hands are appropriate and also replacements. The brass movement will not
run or strike and will need attention. There is a dark partial label inside. $100–$200.
