95. $150
Brewster & Ingrahams steeple fusee with
alarm, 1843-1852. A 20-inch case with mahogany veneer all around and two old/original glasses with a well-retained tablet. The putty around the dial glass has been replaced, the tablet is held in place with wood strips that do not look to have been disturbed. The dial holds old paint and has been touched up at the top; the hands are old and proper replacements. The 30-hour brass fusee
movement is unsigned and has a built-in alarm, which winds on a wooden spool between the two fusees. It is running and striking,
the alarm untested but looks functional. There is a good label behind plastic. A nice example for the tablet. This
clock sold at Cottone’s in 2017 for $500; a very similar example sold last fall at Apple Tree Auction Center for $225. It is
an uncommon model. $150–$300.
