Chauncey Jerome 30-hour steeple with front-mounted
springs, 1844-1850. Another unusual Jerome steeple, this one with springs mounted in front of the great wheels. I don’t
know the reason for this. The 20-inch case is veneered in rosewood on the front and mahogany on the sides with a grainy finish. The tip of the left finial is missing. Both glasses appear to be original with the tablet dirty but complete. The dial
is also likely original, with the original paint; the hands are replacements. The 30-hour time-and-strike movement will not
run but does strike. I think it just needs some oil and encouragement. There is a good label inside. I presume this
is a rare model. $100–$250.
