J.C. Brown ripple-front steeple, 1842-1849. A 20-inch case with a full ripple front and beautiful rosewood veneer on the sides.  Both glasses are period but not necessarily original. The dial has been extensively touched up and is still flaking, with remains of a signature.  The hands are period and appropriate.  The 8-day time-and-strike movement is signed J.C. Brown; it is running and striking on the wire gong.  There is a very dark green label with Brown as the manufacturer.  $500–$800.
