73.              $50

Forestville Mfg. Co. round gothic fusee, 1842-1849. A 19-inch beehive case with rosewood veneer.  There is a chip on the lower right that has been stained.  The wood bezel is broken at the top right and the dial glass is modern; the lower glass has lost its image and is now clear.  The round metal dial holds the original paint with some fading, including a very faded J.C. Brown signature below the mainstem.  The hour hand is period/original, the minute hand a replacement.  The 8-day time-and-strike fusee movement is unsigned, with the brass fusees on a cast iron frame immediately below the movement.  It is running and striking.  There is a good green label inside. Brown did not often use fusee movements in these clocks.  $50–$150.
