Brewster & Ingrahams early round gothic
with cast iron backplate, ca. 1840. A third example of this uncommon model, again with a cast iron backplate and brass springs
enclosed in iron cups, and the repeating rack and snail strike. The mahogany case has an old finish with some scuffing; both
glasses are original with a good cut glass and frosted tablet. There is a key in the ivory escutcheon and a working latch. The original wooden dial with original paint shows some wear and is not securely mounted; the hands are likely original. The
8-day, time-and-strike movement is signed and running with a rack and snail repeating strike on a wire gong on a brass lyre mount. There is a good label inside. $600–$900.
