63.              $500

Sperry & Shaw double-steeple candlestick fusee, 1849-1850.  The 26.5-inch case is veneered in rosewood and mahogany with two paired candlesticks on each side and three old glasses; I think the two frosted tablets have been repainted.  The dial is aluminum, painted and antiqued; the hands are period and appropriate.  The 30-hour brass time-and-strike, double-fusee movement was made and signed by Chauncey Boardman, a principal supplier of movements to Henry Sperry.  His stamp is on the lower left fusee attachment.  There is a good label behind plastic inside, indicating the address of 18 Maiden Lane in New York City, an address used by Sperry & Shaw for just one year before moving down the street.  I can find no other examples of this model being sold by these retailers, but candlestick double-fusees have sold recently for $750 and $950, the latter at Schmitt Horan in 2023.  $500–$900.
