Chauncey Jerome
papier mâché MOP cottage with lever-spring movement, 1845-1850. Mr. Jerome put different movements in this case: this one contains
an unsigned lever-spring 8-day, time-and-strike movement; here’s one with a fusee movement. The black enamel/papier mâché case
is 11 inches tall with mother of pearl (MOP) chips around the front; the dial glass is period but probably not original, the dial
holds the original paint, with touch-up, and is signed “C Jerome”. The 30-hour time-and-strike movement is running and striking
on an iron bell above the movement; there is a door in that back that gives you access to a slow-fast adjustment. There is a
nice label inside as well; this clock may have been made for export to England. $150–$300.
