46.                   $150

Chauncey Jerome papier mâché shelf clock, 1845-1850.  A 17-inch black lacquered case with a papier mâché front including gilding and mother of pearl decorations.  The painted flowers are faded but the gilding is still strong and all but one piece of MOP is retained. The dial glass and signed dial are original, the hands proper and period.  The signed 8-day, time-and-strike movement has a New Haven manufacture stamp and is running and striking on a wire gong.  There is no label.  A better-than-typical example of an uncommon clock.  $150–$300.
