Chauncey Goodrich
mirror-sided shelf clock, ca. 1853. A 13.5-inch mahogany case with double mirrors on each side. The four mirrors and the
two door glasses all appear to be original. The dial surround appears to have been rebacked, possibly repainted entirely, while
the lower tablet is part original decalcomania and part a photo of Buckingham Palace pasted in place of the original image, which
may have been Buckingham palace, as the fit is very good and the replacement not readily apparent. The painted and signed dial
shows considerable chipping, the hands are period. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is unsigned and will run for a short
while and strike on the gold-painted wire gong. There is a dark label on the back wall. AAC sold several of this model
last summer for $308 and $727. $200–$400.
