28. $400
Brewster Mfg. Co.
gilded scroll-front, 1852-1854. A 17-inch rosewood case with gilding around the scrolled borders. The finish is dark and
the gilding is strong, making for a striking appearance. Both glasses are likely original with a well-preserved original tablet. The metal dial holds the original paint with some fading and a maker’s signature; the hands are proper. The ribbed 8-day, time-and-strike
movement is signed and running, striking on a steel bell. There is a good green label inside. This clock was made after
Brewster & Ingrahams broke up over exporting clocks to England, and Brewster continued as the BMC; note that the movement is signed
Brewster and Ingrahams. Schmitt Horan sold a similar example last year for $650. $400–$650.
