Daniel Pratt Jr.
spring-driven shelf clock, ca. 1845. Daniel Pratt was a clockmaker and a successful retailer in Boston and Reading MA. This simple case has a rounded border on the front and is veneered in mahogany with an old finish. The dial glass is old, possibly
original, puttied in place; the mirror appears to be more modern, with a fiberboard backing. The metal dial is in good shape
and may be an old repaint. The hour hand looks original, the minute hand a likely replacement. The brass 30-hour spring-driven
movement is identical to the one in #18 and so is likely of Brewster & Co. origin, unsigned and is mounted on an iron backplate;
I can’t get the strike to work. There is a good label inside. $75–$150.
