9.                   $100

Riley Whiting column & splat, 1828-1835.  A 29-inch case with flat pillars on either side.  I bought this clock because I was intrigued by the gilt decorations on the sides and splat; close inspection suggests that they are a later addition to this clock, as there are faded bronze stencils on the side columns under the attractive gilt decorations.   The wooden acorn finials on top are also likely not original.  The claw feet in front and turned feet in back appear to be original.  The dial glass is old but a replacement and the lower glass is modern, with a good reverse-painted tablet.  The wooden dial is clean with colorful spandrels, the hands are period.  The 30-hour wooden movement will not run but will strike with some reluctance.  There are proper weights and a torn label inside.  $100–$200.

Mark Mayerchak suggests that this is not a Riley Whiting movement.  I lack the expertise to make that call.  Thanks Mark!
