Eli & Samuel
Terry pillar & scroll, 1824-1827. Eli set up his brother Samuel in his workplace and Sam made the clocks; at the same time,
Eli was in partnership with his sons Eli Jr. and Henry, also making pillar & scroll clocks. This is a beautifully refinished
case, 28.5 inches tall, with two original glasses and a well-preserved tablet. The left scroll tip has been repaired twice;
I think the feet are replacements. The brass urn finials are on wooden posts. The wooden dial is clean, the hands proper
and period. The 30-hour time-and-strike wooden movement runs only briefly but will strike. There are proper weights and
a good label inside. A nice example with the original tablet. $350–$500.
