249.         $4500

E. Howard & Co. “No. 69 Marine and Locomotive Clock”, ca. 1900. A rare marine clock in a 10-inch brass housing mounted on a 15-inch mahogany base.  The 8-inch silvered (almost mirrored) dial sits behind a newer glass and shows some spotting, wear, and oxidation.  The hands are as found on several other examples; the top of the hand shaft is broken off so the minute hand cannot be held in place with a pin and washer (the hand fits tightly in the square mount, so it is not a problem).  The platform escapement movement is signed and running without issue.  The sides of the box holding the movement slide out easily.  No label, but a copy of a sales brochure will be included.  There are five listings on the Antique Clocks Identification and Price Guide and none on LiveAuctioneers; the most recent sale was by R.O. Schmitt in 2016 for $6000.  $4500-$6000.
