S. Marti bow-front crystal regulator, ca. 1900. This clock was made
for and retailed by Bailey, Banks, & Biddle in Philadelphia early in the last century. The brass case is 11 inches tall
with a polished gold finish and two cut-glass columns on the front sides; there is a gold ornament on the front of the base. The front glass is beveled and bowed; the side and back glasses are flat and beveled. The flawless porcelain dial is decorated
but unsigned, with fancy brass hands. The round pendule a Paris 8-day, time and half-hour strike movement is signed by Marti
and is imprinted with the Philadelphia retailer’s name. It is running and striking, regulated by a two-jar sealed mercury pendulum. This is a beautiful example. $350–$500.
