Welch, Spring & Co. “Verdi”, 1868-1884. A 31-inch case veneered
in rosewood, although I think the octagon bezel is grain-painted. The dial glass is modern, the lower door glass period/original. The dial has been professionally repainted, the hands are correct. The 8-day, time-and-strike spring movement is unsigned and
running, delicately, and striking a wire gong. The original black flocking paper inside is retained and there is a good label
on the back. This model was made by Welch, Spring, as here, and by E.N. Welch & Co. after these companies merged. AAC sold this model last year for $150. $150–$200.
