New Haven Clock Co. “Regulator No. 00” ca. 1886. The only place you’ll
see this 63-inch oak clock is on page 131 of Ly’s New Haven Clocks & Watches, as there are no sales records on LiveAuctioneers
or the Antique Clocks Identification and Price Guide. The movement is New Haven’s 30-day double-wind, time-only movement, and
the clock appears to have been made for a company in Europe, based on the brass badge on the interior back wall. This model
is normally weight-driven. The finish on the solid oak case is old with a gloss overcoat; the carved inset crest has a long
horizontal crack, and the side finials on the crest may be replacements. The glass is modern, but everything else looks original. The silvered dial shows considerable wear, the hands are likely original. The movement is signed and has a patent mark from
England; it is running strongly, with a make-do repair to the suspension spring. The pendulum bob shows lots of oxidation; there
is a New Haven beat scale below it. No label to be found. The top and two side-columns are not securely attached to the
case and could be secured to the case with large screws by a reasonably competent woodworker; absent that, it can be set on the clock
once mounted on the wall and is stable. The clock is difficult to handle with the crest and columns in place. With no
sales records this one is hard to price; let’s say $800 to start. $800-$1200.
