202.         $500

E. Howard & Co. “No. 5 Banjo”, ca. 1874.  A 29-inch cherry case with rosewood grain-painting, much of it lost on the wooden dial bezel.  The three glasses are period/original, the dial glass held in place with the original putty.  The glass painting is in good condition, some lifting on the throat, and some scratches on the lower tablet.  The dial and hands are original, the dial with some crazing and loss to the Howard signature.  The 8-day, time-only movement is signed and running without problem, powered by a No. 5 iron weight, and regulated by a Howard pendulum and bob.  There is a Howard label on the inside bottom, and a Delaney sticker on the inside.  Have you been waiting for a Howard No. 5 banjo with no apologies?  Bid right and your wait is over.  The average price for a Howard No. 5 over the last three years at AAC is $560.  $500–$800.
