191.           $2500

Samuel Abbott New Hampshire mirror clock, ca. 1825.  A second clock from this maker, this one a bit smaller but in better condition.  The case is 34.5 inches long with bright gilding on the front – I would guess the bright gilding has been redone.  The dial glass is old, the tablet repainted; the mirror is an old replacement.  The painted dial is likely original to the clock, and likely has been repainted.  It is signed, leaving the second ‘t’ off the name, as is also found on the label.  The finely carved hands are period and typical of Abbott. The 8-day, time-only movement is running strongly, driven by an original weight on rods in Abbott style.  The label is well preserved. There is nothing not to like about this magnificent clock; the most recent sale of a very similar example was at Cottone’s in 2016 for $2200.  $2500–$3000.
