Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Regulator No. 2”, ca. 1935. On January
1, 1931 the Seth Thomas Clock Co. became a division of General Time Instruments Corporation (Ly, Seth Thomas Clocks & Movements,
Vol. 1). This clock was made sometime after that event, based on the label on the back of the clock. I don’t believe I’ve
seen a No. 2 from this period before. The case appears to be mahogany, with a deep wax finish and some discoloration around
the lower door that can be removed with a bit of 0000 steel wool, I believe. The lower door latches with a button catch at the
top; both glasses look original to me, the lower glass with a gold outline along the edges. The metal dial shows chipping and
discoloration and is signed Seth Thomas. The hands are correct. A new cross support has been added behind the dial and
the brass bezel in the dial door was painted white – a bad idea in my opinion. The 8-day, time-only, trapezoidal movement bears
the ST logo and the weight is ST issue; I believe the pendulum is as well. There is a beat scale and, as noted, a label on the
back. Running without a problem. $350-$500.
