165.           $500

New Haven Clock Co. “Elfrida Thirty-day Calendar”, ca. 1900. This large wall calendar clock is not shown in Ly’s book on New Haven clocks, nor in his book, Calendar Clocks.  However, the non-calendar model is shown in Ly, New Haven Clocks & Watches on page 140.  I found one sales record for the calendar model on LiveAuctioneers, in 2008 for $850, and no sales on the Antique Clocks Identification and Price Guide.  The 49-inch walnut case has a clean finish and the door glass is wavy.  Both dials are new paper, the calendar dial signed, and the hands are as shown in the catalog illustration for the non-calendar model.  The spring-driven movement is New Haven’s 30-day double-wind, time-only.  It is signed and running, and the calendar is advancing.  There is an English patent stamp on the movement that suggests to me that this clock, or at least the movement, was made for export.  The calendar mechanism on the lower dial has been remounted on an aluminum circle over the old dial pan, presumably to stabilize the calendar mechanism.  There is a New Haven beat scale but no label.  Evidently a rare example.  $500-$1000.
