160. $1000
Ithaca Calendar Clock Co. “No. 1 Regulator” REPRODUCTION, ca. 1980. A 72-inch mahogany case with exquisite carvings top and bottom. This is a remarkable and beautiful reproduction of the original. The 12-inch dials are paper on zinc plates; the hands match the hands shown in the catalog illustration (Ly,Calendar Clocks, page 125). The incised dial board is well done but not perfect; there is a split at the top and middle that have been repaired. The incised pattern closely matches the catalog illustration. The nickel-plate movement was made by Leonard Bisby of Aurora MO (as stamped on the front plate); it is double-weight, time-only, 8-days and running, but the calendar date side will need adjustment/repair; the weekday roller is advancing. There are two flat cast iron weights and a modern nickeled pendulum bob that matches the one shown in the catalog illustration. The case is numbered ‘3’, suggesting that there at least two others out there, but I can find no sales records for Bisby (or any) reproductions. An extensively restored No. 1 Regulator by Joel Warren sold at Fontaine’s in 2021 for $4500. Originals sell for $16,000 and up. $1000–$5000.
UPDATE: An identical clock sold at Harris Auction on July 1 for $4000.
