159. $250
Welch, Spring & Co. “Italian No. 3” calendar, ca. 1870. The 19.75-inch case is veneered in rosewood with an old finish and some patina; I think the wooden bezels are grain-painted to match. Both glasses are old, the time dial is faded and the numbering has been strengthened. The hands are correct all around (see
Ly, Calendar Clocks, page 349). The 8-day, time-only movement is signed and running, and the calendar hands advance. The
catch for the calendar has been modified but works fine. There is a good label on the backboard. The most recent sale
on LiveAuctioneers was at Tom Harris in 2020 for $225, although he sold a nicer example in 2019 for $400. $250–$400.
