130.           $250

Seth Thomas & Sons & Co. “No. 8011”, ca. 1872. Perhaps the most popular model from ST&S, a company formed in 1865 to manufacture lever-spring escapements and 15-day round plate pendulum movements with porcelain dials and cast metal cases to mimic French clocks, and as found here.  These high-quality clocks were sold largely by the American Clock Co. in New York City.  ST&S&Co. lasted until 1879.  This casting of a Guardian Angel with a little girl is 16.5 inches tall with the original finish, with some wear and patina, and, most importantly, the angel’s finger pointing toward heaven has not been broken off.  That alone is a rare thing.  The porcelain dial shows some chipping at the winding arbors and some hairlines, and is signed, with correct hands.  There is a thick beveled glass in the sash. The time and half-hour strike movement is die-stamped Seth Thomas & Sons & Co.  It is running enthusiastically and striking on a nickel bell.  This is the best example of this model that I have seen.  $250–$500.
