M.W. Atkins eight-day fusee steeple, 1846–1850. A 20-inch steeple with rosewood veneer on the front and cone finials. Both glasses are old; the tablet looks original but has
been touched up. The slightly contoured metal dial has old paint and some soiling; the hands are period, the minute hand repaired. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is unsigned, with remote wood fusees and the springs behind the fusees, not typically seen with
8-day movements. It is running and striking on the wire gong. There is a good label inside. R.O. Schmitt’s sold
a very similar example in 2014 for $225; there are few examples from this maker in this period. $150–$300.
