72.              $250

Wm. Gilbert Clock Co. miniature steeple, ca. 1860.  Silas B. Terry worked for Gilbert after his business went bankrupt in 1859; the “double ladder” movement in this clock is his design and is shown in Brooks Palmer, A Treasury of American Clocks, page 130; it is also discussed in an NAWCC Bulletin article by Smith, Grimshaw, and Arvay in December 1995.  The 15-inch mahogany case has an old, dark finish with an original lower glass and well-preserved lithograph tablet; the dial glass is modern.  The two finials may be replacements.  The dial retains the original paint with much chipping and fading of the numbering, the hands are period/original.  The 30-hour time and alarm movement is unsigned but is notable for the spring being mounted behind the back plate and an interior alarm mechanism, rather than a strike; the alarm winds below the dial.  It is running without issue.  There is a very dark label inside behind plastic and partially obscured by the alarm bell.  No sales records that I can find.  $250–$500.
