Birge & Fuller candlestick double-steeple
with wagon-spring movement, 1844–1848. This is a double-steeple with single candlesticks on each side and a 30-hour wagon-spring
movement, a relatively rare configuration. The case is 22 inches tall and 11.75 inches wide with mahogany veneer and three old
and likely original glasses, the frosted tablets with some wear and losses. The upper tablet depicts an eagle holding two flags,
the lower tablet depicts a lion and an eagle; both are Fenn patterns. The candlesticks look original, the button feet look like
replacements. The metal dial holds the original paint in good condition and the original hands. The 30-hour time-and-strike
movement is signed Chauncey Boardman, Bristol CT; it will run briefly and strike on the wire gong. There is an embossed pendulum
bob and a good label behind the wagon-spring. This clock last sold at R.O. Schmitt in 2017 for $2400. $1800–$2400.
