57.              $175

Forestville Manufacturing Co. shelf clock, 1842-1849. A 15.5-inch case veneered in rosewood with gilt stenciling on the top, sides, and base.  The finish is worn and detracts from the appearance but may be difficult to restore without damaging the stenciling.  The glasses are old but the reverse-painted images are modern; the J.C. Brown image is wonderful and a favorite of mine.  The dial is likely original with old or the original paint, and a faded J.C. Brown signature at the top.  The hands period, with a repair to the minute hand.  The 8-day time-and-strike movement is signed Forestville M.F.G. Co., Bristol CT and is running and striking a wire gong without problems.  There is a good label inside, difficult to read in this case, but all there.  AAC sold a similar model two years ago for $200.  $175-$400.
