48.                   $1200

Silas B. Terry OG cottage, 1854–1859.  Based on the label I believe this clock was made after Silas left the Terryville Manufacturing Co. and returned to working on his own, until he went bankrupt in 1859.  The OG case is 14.5 inches tall with mahogany veneer all around and a great finish.  Both glasses are modern, the tablet with a stenciled American eagle image.  The painted dial is wooden, not old, the hands are period and appropriate.  The real attraction here is the movement (as always):  a 30-hour time-and-strike with the steel springs on arbors positioned below the winding arbors, and the count wheel located on the center arbor.  It is running and striking vigorously.  You can see several examples of similar clocks by Terry with this movement in Brooks Palmer,A Treasury of American Clocks, page 147.  Note the well-preserved label; this clock sold at R.O. Schmitt’s in 2018 for $1700. $1200–$2000.
