37.                   $200

Birge, Peck & Co. “Extra Eight Day Brass Clock”, 1849-1859.  This firm followed Birge & Fuller but made the same clocks; here is their most common model, the sleigh-front triple decker.  The veneer on the 32.5-inch case is mahogany with figured mahogany veneer on the columns and corbels.   All three glasses are period/original, with well-preserved tablets; the middle glass is cracked, the lower tablet is outstanding.  The contoured metal dial has been touched up extensively and looks good; the hands are proper, the minute hand a modern replacement.  The strap-brass movement is unsigned, as is typical; it is running and striking with confidence. There are two old weights and an outstanding interior label with “The Breeze” steam train passing by while a boy with his dog watches. You gotta like that.  AAC has sold four of this model in the last several years for an average of $232.  $200–$300.
