Jeromes’ &
Darrow “Eight Day Clock”, ca. 1830. A 38-inch case with carved half-columns and splat, and two old glasses with replaced putty. The large tablet has been repainted. The wooden dial has been excessively cleaned but looks good, the hands are period and correct. My understanding is that Jeromes & Darrow modified short-drop wooden, 30-hour movements with an added arbor and compounded the
weights on pulleys to allow the clock to run for 8 days. Note the pendulum window near the top of the lower glass; they needed
heavy, 12-lb weights to drive the movement (as found here). The movement here is advertised on the label as having ivory bushings,
which appear to be present in some pivot holes. It is a Jerome movement. There is a good label inside and a period pendulum
bob; period dust covers on top. AAC sold a similar example last summer for $350. $300–$500.
