Silas Hoadley
transitional 30-hour shelf clock, 1813–1830. This is a transitional clock, likely made as pillar & scroll clocks fell out
of favor and the sturdier column & splat clocks took over; note the pillar & scroll style feet and skirt on this in-between
clock. The case finish is a bit crusty, the bronzed columns are dark and the splat was never painted. There is some damage
to the right side of the front skirt and the right-side skirt. Both glasses are original with the original putty; the tablet
is original, with significant losses. The wood dial is faded, with some losses; the hands are period and proper. The 30-hour
time-and-strike movement has ivory bushings as advertised on the label; it will run for a short while and strike on the iron bell,
driven by two period weights. A readable label inside; period dust covers on top. A relatively uncommon clock; Cottone’ssold one in 2018 for $250. $150–$250.
