11.                   $200

Silas Hoadley shelf clock “Union Must Be Preserved”, ca. 1832.  A second example of this patriotic clock but notice that the eagle is facing the opposite direction of the eagle in #10 – these are “bookend” clocks.  The case is again 29.5 inches tall with mahogany veneer, but the sides are a bit lighter.  All three glasses are old, and the door glasses are held in place with old and the original putty.  There is some degradation to the banner glass on the left side; could this possibly be original?  The wooden dial board is a bit faded with some flaking, but again colorful spandrels.  The hands are period.  The wooden 30-hour time-and-strike movement won’t run but will strike, with two old weights.  The bushings are ivory.  A largely undamaged label inside. Another nice example – could you use both?  $200–$400.
